openssl and pluggable engine digests

IIRC LibreSSL stripped out the entire concept of dynamically loadable 
modules, such as engines, when they were hacking and slashing rather 
aimlessly when they forked about a decade ago. (From browsing git logs at 
the time, long ago.)

Would you elaborate more on what "built in LibreSSL" and "attached to 
OpenSSL" means in your context?
