I offer my efforts to combine all I have learned here into a guide for
building an EC PKI.
I have been using this extensively the past month+ to trial different
cert designs for use in aviation. I can build a workable CA in a matter
of an hour, changing things in the config file and the env variables.
Having real scripting would be a plus rather than just my rude "paste
into command window".
I invite review, and note that if I made an error, it is all on me. And
I welcome any and all insights!
Off to IETF shortly...

Abstract:
This memo provides a guide for building a PKI (Public Key
Infrastructure) of EC certificates using openSSL. Certificates in
this guide can use either ECDSA or EdDSA. Along with common End
Entity certificates, this guide provides instructions for creating
IEEE 802.1AR iDevID Secure Device certificates.
