I just looked into this. It seems s_client on 0.9.8 crashes if it is unable to
connect to open a socket to the server. It looks like this bug has been there
for a while. As Rich said, 0.9.8 is only receiving security fixes now so this
isn't going to be fixed - especially as there is an easy workaround (make sure
s_client connects!!!)
