Have you checked Github > Settings > Emails > Email preferences ? 
Maybe yours are set to "Receive all emails"?

My settings are as follows:

       ( )  Receive all emails, except those I unsubscribe from.

       (*) Only receive account related emails, and those I subscribe to.
