    which we reversed engineered, which clearly won't be recognized by
    some standards body. But it also says "should". So maybe that can
    be an exception?
    
Well, each item does have an escape hatch saying the existing code base will be addressed in the future.  But you are correct, a private key format could bring up some issues.
